Gallagher eyeing up Barbon purchase

AJ Gallagher is closing in on buying Barbon Insurance Group, according to Post Magazine.

Our sister-title revealed that a list of up to nine potential suitors for Barbon was whittled down to three brokers, including Gallagher, before Christmas.

The article added that Marsh is now understood to have withdrawn its interest, while JLT may still be in the running. All three firms refused to comment for the story.

In its most recent set of results Barbon reported a loss of loss of £471,000 for the year ended December 2011, along with an operating loss of £1.4m as turnover rose slightly
