ABI claims government flood talks have hit deadlock

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has claimed that government talks over securing long-term flood insurance for high-risk households have reached deadlock.

The insurance trade body urged the government to commit to a joint solution and described the current state of talks as having hit an "impasse". 

It said the government is refusing to consider providing a temporary overdraft facility to its proposed not-for-profit special insurance fund for 200,000 households at most danger.

And the ABI maintained that the insurance industry is not asking the government for support funding.

ABI records 3% home premiums rise in Q1

Average home insurance premiums for buildings and contents cover rose by 3% to £375 in the first quarter of this year, pushing the year-on-year rise up to 19%, according to the Association of British Insurers.
