Industry experts have voiced fears that the departure of Financial Services Authority (FSA) head Hector Sants will plunge the insurance sector into confusion.

Mr Sants will leave the organisation in the summer of 2010, after three years as chief executive, in a departure he said had always been planned.

In a statement, the FSA board stated that it would announce any details regarding Mr Sants' successor "in due course".
