Insurance M&A activity to increase, say Willis

The broker has claimed that the soft market was fuelling mergers and acquisitions

The insurance industry will see a pick up in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity in 2010, according to Willis.

Tony Ursano, CEO of Willis capital markets and advisory, a unit of Willis Group Holdings, said that the soft market was fuelling the search for growth, diversification and specialisation through M&A.

Citing the factors likely to drive future M&A activity, Mr Ursano said that the size and scale of insurance companies was becoming increasingly important for rating agencies, investors
