E-commerce: SMEs unconvinced by social networking value

Over half (52%) of small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) use social media but 27% of these have expressed serious doubts about the value of such sites.

Research by the Forum of Private Business found that 21% described social networking sites as 'not useful' and 6% went even further, labelling them 'useless'.

Only 7% of respondents described social media as 'very useful', with 18% stating it was 'useful'.

Forum spokesman, Phil McCabe, said: "It's clear that, while a lot of our members are certainly trying out social media for their businesses, many remain unconvinced of its benefits.
