Seller beware

Tony Cornell

Following on from July’s column Tony Cornell considers the further implications of selling your business

In July, we looked into the three principles that provide the basis for selling your business:

▶ You only sell once and your purchaser might have bought a number of times

▶ Sell at the top of the market and buy at the bottom

▶ Decide whether your ultimate priority is a good price or a good home.

We established that the market was improving but was some way from peaking. Pricing for brokers is determined by the potential return for the purchaser after the business has been fully integrated
