RSA deal could open up Zurich to more brokers

Brokers divided over how the possible takeover would affect the market.

The possible Zurich RSA takeover deal would give Zurich more access to brokers in the UK, according to Ten Insurance director James Sharp.

Sharp told Insurance Age: "Zurich are small with medium to large brokers, they're really only big with mega-brokers. They're too narrowly focused and RSA broadens the scope, which is probably why they are considering this."

However, Sharp did not think the deal would mean a lot for the UK insurance market.

Broking profits fall at Saga

Underlying profit before tax in Saga’s insurance broking arm fell to £39.8m for the year ended 31 January 2024, compared with £71.5m in the previous period.
