Call the cops: five most recent insurance fraud stories

Following the ABI’s fraud conference here’s our rundown of the five most up-to-date cases that attempted to hit the sector in the pocket.

1. Liability in Liverpool

Eight Merseyside men admitted to fabricating car crashes and falsifying whiplash injuries to claim around £500,000 from LV. However the insurer and IFED spotted their lies and they were either cautioned or sentenced to jail time.

 

2. Burning man

Justin Hindry was sent to prison for six years following a whopping scheme to get over £2m from Allianz. He tried to claim after his carpet show room burned down - the clincher was he set the fire himself.

 

3. Ghostly goings

Applied updates on commercial push

Applied Systems has confirmed Arch Insurance is about to enter the pilot phase of onboarding and will be live on the Applied Epic broker management system in April, with Iprism and Ark to follow and more promised in 2024.
