Axa left red-faced by broker data blunder

road-sign

Axa has been slammed for a "monumental cock-up" in which key renewal details for brokers' clients were sent to market competitors, Insurance Age can reveal.

The insurer's Reading branch mistakenly sent a blanket spread sheet to 32 brokers containing the renewal dates of several thousand policies.

The branch was trying to collect the Employers' Reference Number (ERN) of brokers' clients but, instead of just sending the relevant policies to each broker, it emailed a document containing client information to all of them.

Insurance Age has been told that information regarding some 5,500 policies was sent to the 32 brokers.
