SSP-owned commercial underwriting agency, Keychoice Underwriting, has officially launched its commercial combined, package and property owners products to Keychoice Network members, with additional commercial lines products to follow later in the year.

Three major insurers Inter Hannover (the UK subsidary of Hannover Re), Zurich and MMA are supporting the Keychoice Underwriting proposition.

Jonathan Davey (pictured), MD of Keychoice, said: “I’m delighted to declare Keychoice Underwriting open for business. For too long, independent brokers have been overlooked or underserviced in the commercial lines market. We’re changing that, starting today.

“Service is top of every broker’s wish-list but bottom of their satisfaction list. We will harness the power of the 40% of the UK broker market and the £2bn of commercial premium income within the existing Keychoice Network to ensure that brokers get a better deal in the commercial insurance sector, enabling them to thrive going forward.

"We are committed to giving brokers a bigger voice by providing them with easy access to competitively-priced, well-designed insurance products that are supported by experienced, empowered underwriters. When we surveyed brokers before the launch, the same complaints came up again and again – ‘we want speed and ease of decision-making, we want service, we want to serve our customers easily and effectively’. We’re making sure brokers get those things through Keychoice Underwriting."

Derek Findlayson, strategy and proposition director at Keychoice Underwriting, said: "Regional brokers provide their customers with high quality service, have loyal customers, and also provide insurers with a consistent source of profitable business.

"Keychoice Underwriting gives these brokers the tools that they need to serve their clients even more effectively. Keychoice Network has shown brokers what we can do for them on personal lines, now we’re going to give them a voice they haven’t had in the commercial lines market. We’ve listened to brokers and are giving them what they want – direct access to underwriters with the technical nous and remit to make decisions – which allows brokers to get on with doing what they do best. Keychoice Underwriting is not just another ‘carrier’ or MGA – nor are we a broker turned underwriter. We will become a world-class underwriting business, focused on driving underwriting returns to carriers whilst giving brokers a level of service and relationship they’ve never seen before.”

Laurence Walker, Chief Executive of SSP, said: “The Keychoice Underwriting management team is highly experienced and has developed an exciting proposition for brokers. With the backing of SSP’s technology and financial strength I am positive it will become a major force in the UK insurance market.”
