Individual responsibility required to reduce NHS strain

More people will be required to take out health insurance over the next decade as their access to free healthcare becomes increasingly limited, according to a new report by Friends Provident.

Visions of 2020 said that in order for the UK to retain a free National Health Service (NHS) by 2020, it was "inevitable" that individuals would take a greater role.

Dr Patricia Macnair, a medical practitioner who worked on the report, said: "There will be more responsibility on the individual to maintain their own health but there won't be a lot of money coming from the state to help people to do that - it'll be up to them."

Broking profits fall at Saga
