Halliwells in takeover talks amid cash crisis

Halliwells, the insurance litigation specialist, has confirmed it is in talks to sell the business after filing a notice to the courts of its intention to appoint an administrator.

A spokeswoman for the law firm said it was in discussions with "another highly regarded firm of solicitors".

Although she refused to name any potential suitors, Hill Dickinson has been touted as the most likely to purchase the firm's assets. Barlow Lyde and Gilbert has also been tipped to snap up its insurance business. Both firms refused to comment.

The spokeswoman said that Halliwells' financial woes were due to "high property costs exacerbated by the current economic climate".
