Ascend review: highest aviation claims since 9/11

The aviation market has endured its worst claims year since the US 9/11 terror attacks in 2001, with estimated losses for 2009 standing at just under $2.5bn (£1.6bn), according to Ascend.

In its annual review of the aviation industry, Ascend claimed that although there were periods where the aviation class may have made money, overall, it had been barely profitable, if at all.
