Brokers 'open to litigation' from underinsured clients

Brokers' duty to inform clients of pitfalls stressed

Brokers could be leaving themselves open to the threat of litigation for failing to ensure their clients have the correct level of cover, a surveying firm has warned.

Barrett Corp and Harrington (BCH) revealed that 77% of properties were underinsured in 2008-09.

Martyn Barrett, director at BCH, said that while responsibility ultimately lay with the client, brokers had a duty to inform them about possible pitfalls.

Broking profits fall at Saga

Underlying profit before tax in Saga’s insurance broking arm fell to £39.8m for the year ended 31 January 2024, compared with £71.5m in the previous period.
