Smaller brokers may get locked out of SME sector by aggregators

SME aggregator market dominated by two large players may mean brokers get left behind

Towergate’s further move into the aggregator space via a deal with Confused.com has raised questions as to whether smaller brokers will be left behind at the micro end of the SME market.

The consolidator already has a relationship with Comparethemarket.com which means the most visible part of the aggregator market is now equally dominated by two players for SME, with Simply Business tying up with GoCompare and Money Supermarket.

Broking profits fall at Saga

Underlying profit before tax in Saga’s insurance broking arm fell to £39.8m for the year ended 31 January 2024, compared with £71.5m in the previous period.
