The over-50s are becoming more passionate about travelling abroad but, when it comes to travel insurance, many are finding the price of protection is too high. Steve Hook explores the nature of this insurance market and what the future holds for older travellers

The over-50s are increasingly proving to be the new globetrotters of the 20th century. In addition to annual summer holidays and cultural city breaks, research shows that as many as 775,000 over-50s have taken an extended holiday abroad of six months or more, with many preferring adventure travel rather than relaxing in the sun.

With the over-50s rapidly overtaking the student gap year generation in their passion for travel, it seems there has never been a better time than retirement to go abroad

Broking profits fall at Saga

Underlying profit before tax in Saga’s insurance broking arm fell to £39.8m for the year ended 31 January 2024, compared with £71.5m in the previous period.
