It has long been acknowledged that the small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) market is the broker's stronghold. However, this has not stopped industry speculation that the sector is under threat from other players looking to enter into what has always been a profitable market.

Needless to say, the SME sector is an attractive market for many insurers and brokers but, according a report from the Association of British Insurers (ABI), 85% of the commercial share can be attributed to intermediaries
